Attorney Profile

Dana L. Corman earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin and upon graduation went to work for the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services in Chicago. At DCFS Dana held a succession of positions (caseworker, supervisor, regional counsel, and guardianship administrator) and with each promotion took on increased responsibilities, earning valuable experience and the respect of her DCFS management team, co-workers, staff and clients.

While working for DCFS, Dana went on to earn her Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and later her Doctor of Jurisprudence at the Chicago Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology. As an attorney in private practice, her focus is on permanency for families: on adoption, guardianship, mediation of Child welfare and other issues. Dana has extensive expertise in planning for special needs children based on her work in child Welfare and at the Developmental Institute at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. She is an expert in Adoption Subsidy Reviews, is a member of the DCFS Adoption Attorney Panel, and has been instrumental in writing policy and passing legislation that benefits children and families.

Her background in social work and law led her to become co-founder of The Center for Law and Social Work in Chicago, a not-for-profit social service agency that provides legal and social work services to its clients. The CLSW focused on adoption, guardianship issues, restoration of parental rights, back-up planning and more. While there she was instrumental in developing the very successful Family Matters Program. Dana served as Executive Director for the CLSW until 2010, when she transitioned out of the position to devote more time to developing her private practice and working directly with families and agencies on adoption and guardianship issues and new program development. Dana has written papers and has spoken on the subjects of adoption, parental rights, and other topics to a variety of professional organizations.
